Founded by Ira and Pat Spring, Wilderness and Mountaineering, Journalists and Photographers, that were avid hikers.

IRA SPRING

Ira Spring , Founder 1918-2003

Ira's passion was hiking and the love of the mountains plus the wilderness that surrounded those mountains. Ira was happiest when he knew that others were enjoying the love of the wilds. Youth needed to learn how to be future stewards of our lands. While everyone is protecting the very essence of Wilderness and access .

PAT SPRING

Pat Spring, Supporting Founder 1923-2009

Wife and beloved hiking partner who typed most of Ira's manuscripts on her Underwood Typewriter for over 60 years, all the while supporting Ira's work Pat also assisted in publishing a guide book on Wild Flowers, while still raising her family and joining Ira in wanting more people to enjoy the Wilds away from Highways and Cities.

John E Spring , son and manager of Trust

John has extensive hiking experience from early years as a volunteer with Student Conservation Associations to working as a Backcountry Ranger for the National Park Service to helping the early years of WTA volunteer trail crews, past President of Volunteers for Outdoor Washington, to today of Volunteering with the US Forest Service as a Wilderness Ranger.

Vicky Spring, Daughter

Vicky with her husband Tom Kirkendall are professional Photographers and dedicate their careers to being out of doors. Successful book authors and freelance work. Most of their time is in the out of Doors.
